Geocache Description:


A quick 2-stage multi. Posted coordinates take you to a road-side shrine. Count the number of lines on the sign and use this number (X) in the following equation to find the nearby cache container:

N 20 34.(357 + X) W 105 10.(480 + X)

Checksum: N = 20, W = 24


Take the blue #4 bus from Centro to Paso Ancho and Paso del Guayabo (15 minutes; 8 pesos). From there it is a 2-km trek to the start of this series. Attributes and terrain ratings are an average for the series.

This cache is one in a series of many along a dirt road that winds through the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains from Paso del Guayabo to Los Llanitos 10 km away. The road consists of numerous ups and downs with significant changes in elevation (400-500 meters).

A moderate level of fitness is required, and the hike is best done early in the morning before it gets too hot — be sure to bring sufficient water with you.

All cache containers are either 2-litre preform tubes or small Tupperware containers and most are hidden at the base of trees under a rock or under a pile of rocks. The road is fairly well-travelled, so please use STEALTH when retrieving and replacing containers and re-hide as found.

A variety of wildlife was spotted, including meter-long iguanas, coatimundi, parrots, macaws, chachalacas, vultures, and other birds.
