Face à la mer, vous pouvez voir à l'horizon l'île d'Oléron : le pont qui relie l'île au continent, Château-d'Oléron et la plage des Saumonards à votre droite.
Cette vaste étendue d'eau correspond à une partie de la réserve naturelle de Moëze-Oléron.
Le territoire de la réserve naturelle est dans le département de Charente-Maritime, sur la commune de Moëze. Il a la forme d'un triangle limité à l'ouest par l'île d'Oléron. En majorité sur le domaine public maritime (6 500 ha), il comprend également à l'est un petit secteur terrestre (220 ha) dans le marais de Brouage au sud de l'embouchure de la Charente.
Situé sur un axe migratoire majeur entre l’Europe du Nord et l’Afrique, le site fonctionnel (estuaires Charente/Seudre/Oléron) qui dépasse les strictes limites de la RNN, est devenu à ce jour le 2e en France métropolitaine après la Camargue, avec en hiver près de 90 000 oiseaux d’eau migrateurs (jusqu’à 70 000 limicoles).
Du continent à l'île d'Oléron, la réserve naturelle de Moëze-Oléron offre une terre d'asile pour des milliers d'oiseaux migrateurs avec plus de 270 espèces fréquentant la réserve (dont 70 nicheuses). De février à mai, pendant la migration pré-nuptiale, stationnent des dizaines de milliers d'oiseaux.
La réserve naturelle compte également 7 espèces d'amphibiens dont la Rainette méridionale et le Pélobate cultripède, 7 espèces de reptiles (Cistude d'Europe) et 26 espèces de mammifères dont la Loutre d'Europe.

AVERTISSEMENT : la passe aux Boeufs est une voie submersible selon les heures de la journée, renseignez-vous avant votre visite sur les horaires des marées et les horaires où la passe est franchissable. Prévoyez un certain temps pour découvrir l'île, tenez-en compte pour le retour et estimez largement. The territory of the nature reserve is in the department of Charente-Maritime, in the municipality of Moëze. It has the shape of a triangle limited to the west by the Oléron island. Mostly on the public maritime domain (6 500 ha), it also includes in the east a small land area (220 ha) in the Brouage marsh south of the mouth of the Charente.
Located on a major migration route between northern Europe and Africa, the functional site (estuaries Charente / Seudre / Oléron) which exceeds the strict limits of the RNN, has become to date the 2nd in metropolitan France after the Camargue , with in winter nearly 90 000 migratory waterbirds (up to 70 000 waders).
From the mainland to the Oléron island, the Moëze-Oléron nature reserve offers a land of refuge for thousands of migratory birds with more than 270 species frequenting the reserve (including 70 nesting birds). From February to May, during the pre-nuptial migration, tens of thousands of birds park.
