Geocache Description:

EN: Kvaternik Square (“Kvatrić” in the local slang) is one of the biggest squares in Zagreb, for sure one of the most traffic one, and for years it was an artery of the whole neighborhood life. The local fruit and vegetables market situated on the square was one of the main reasons for this, as well as the flower shops on the north side. In 2006, a great renovation of the square and surrounding streets has begun, during which the market has been moved a few hundred meters to the south, in Šubićeva street. The underground garage has been built, as the pedestrian tunnels which turned out to be a total failure, and according to the local residents, the same can be said for the whole restructuring project. Mainly, the complaints of the majority are that in spite of architectural success, the people had been driven away from the square which serves only as a toilet for pigeons (and nobody is cleaning it), pedestrian passages are neglected and dirty, while the water fountains are in disastrous state (while our mayor, obsessed with fountains, is always building new ones).
On the east side you can see one mastodon from the socialist era, a “Nama” shopping center, which by some miracle is still surviving.
