Geocache Description:

Help clean up a Lake County waterway, and earn 2 souvenirs. One souvenir celebrating the "3 MILLIONTH" active geocache, as well as a CITO souvenir on Earth Day.

WHO - Helpful geocachers

WHAT - Fill some bags with floating debris.

WHERE - Haynes Creek Preserve Island.

WHY - Concern for community, earn a souvenir, something to do on a Saturday morning.

WHEN - April 22, 2017 @ 9 am to 11 am. or whatever it takes.

MATERIALS SUGGESTED - Insect repellent, sun screen, trash grabbers, gloves, boat, etc.

I WILL PROVIDE - bags, cold water, lots of thanks, and a few prizes.

We have the opportunity to help the community and earn a CITO souvenir at the same time. Come out and discover a not too well kown Preserve area in Lake county. Remember, this area is inhabited by wild creatures and insects. Wildlife sightings are very likely. Keep cool, and bring your camera. If there is enough of us, we can split into 2 groups and we shouldn't need to paddle more than 3 miles round trip.

We will focus on the waterways from Lake Eustis to the Haynes Creek Lock. The CITO area is only accessible by boat. There is a kayak/canoe launch at the parking area at GZ. It IS NOT accessible to motorized/trailered boats. The closest public ramp for motorized boats that I'm aware of is in Tavares on RT 441 (see the waypoint) 3 miles SSE.

If you don't have a watercraft, you're welcome to come help with the launching and landing of boats, and cleanup on the parking area as well as the half mile trail on the island.
