Big Discovery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

hoteloscar6: This cache has gone missing yet again, so I'm archiving it. Someone might want to put a new cache in the area with the hopes it won't go missing every four months. I thank all of you geocachers that went to visit my old neighborhood to find this cache.

Geocache Description:

This geocache is a small camo-ed pill container with easy access and parking near the geo-zone.  Bring your own writing stick.  Hiding places in this park are limited so a level of difficulty had to be added to help make this cache muggle proof.  The park is surrounded by homes but is usually a quiet location.

My mother first took me to Discovery Park in Yreka in 1970 when I was little.   I later lived in the neighborhood so I spent a lot of time in this park.   There's also some historical significance to this location.  Gold was discovered at or near this spot which was later termed Thompson's Dry Diggings. The above link shows what the rock used to look like as well as the printed details of the plaque. The City of Yreka in late 2017 added a statue of a miner and made a cement landing around the boulder at the south-west end of the park. The original brass plaque has been cleaned up too.  After signing the log, please try to place the cache back so it is secure, and somewhat obscured to keep it safe and also please share some photos if you can.  Happy geocaching!
