Geocache Description:

A tribute cache to a good friend and well known Calgary area mountain trail cacher who turns a young 70 on April 21st.  Happy Birthday Peter! Regardless of which route you choose, expect a hike of 4.4km one way and about 400m of elevation gain.

BVPete Overlooking the Bow Valley

I was out hiking the Indian Graves / Willow Creek Ridge Loop with the family and decided to ascend the NE Willow CreekRidge summit that I avoided the last time I was here with BVPete. There were great views up top and it seemed a fitting spot to hide a cache. Given the typical BVPete type of cache location and the proximity to his birthday, this cache is a tribute to him.

Access to the cache is best accessed while hiking the the Indian Graves / Willow Ridge Loop, expect a round trip hike of just under 9km and an elevation gain of over 400m with lots of ups and downs. The Indian Graves Trail is well marked and the route visible from the posted parking coordinates.

My preference is to hike the loop clockwise and do the Willow Creek Ridge portion first. It has a more gradual ascent, but a steep descent off Indian Graves. Park at the posted coordinates and then follow the Willow Creek Trail for 1.5km to the posted reference point. From there head up the trail and then veer left and eventually right at the posted reference points and just stay as high as possible as you go. You will soon be heading directly for this cache and the caches up on the Willow Ridge summits. There is some deadfall for a short section lower down, but its the kind you can step over with no issue. The cache is a small LnL. See the spoiler and hint for help. I have attached a track log so you can see the route we took. The extra blue leg can be used if you want to get Sleepy_hollow's cache on the trail before ascending the ridge.

Taking a Break

Fearless

Water Friendly

The cache is a small rectangular lock n' lock.

As always, remember you are in the back country and come prepared for varied terrain, weather and possible animal encounters. Bear spray is strongly recommended. Let people know where you are going and if possible, try not to travel alone.
