Geocache Description:

A traditional cache, situated on quite a busy road through the centre of Romney Marsh.  Easy parking for a quick cache and dash, and cache is easily accessible.

MARSHIAN HERITAGE CACHE   N 51° 00.506   E 000° 51.354

My first attempt at hiding a cache, and being a lazy blighter I didn’t want to have to walk too far to look after it, so welcome to my home village:-

Brenzett is located towards the centre of the Romney Marshes and is surrounded on all sides by open countryside.

The name Brenzett comes from the Old English berned ‘burned’ and set ‘stable, fold’; the place is first mentioned in the Domesday Book as Brensete.

The village is a busy transport hub, being at the crossroads of the A2070 road to Ashford and the A259 to Hastings and Folkestone. It has lost its public house [Fleur de Lis} and Post Office but retains a petrol station.

The small parish church is dedicated to St Eanswith and is worth a visit.  The church is not situated in Church Lane itself but can be found down a smaller lane about 100 yards away which is signposted along the road to Brenzett Green, a remnant of the original A2070 to Hamstreet and Ashford which was rebuilt entirely in the 1990s.

Brenzett is the home to the Romney Marsh Wartime Collection.  As well as exhibiting the remains of various World War II combat aircraft that have been excavated from the surrounding marshland the museum also includes a de Havilland Vampire T.11 and an English Electric Canberra B.2 on display in the museum grounds.

Brenzett was also the site of a Royal Air Force Advanced Landing Ground [ALG] airfield during the Second World War, RAF Brenzett, at one time operating North American Mustang IIIs.

This is a traditional cache and will hopefully be a nice easy cache and dash find.  The road is quite busy but parking on the road close to GZ shouldn’t cause problems.  The road is the main walking route for the village schoolchildren and their parents though, so beware short inquisitive muggles.

Cache contains logbook and pencil, a couple of badges and a Help for Heroes trackable.

The homeowner is well aware of the cache’s existence, having provided its hiding place, so give the old codger a wave if you see him!!
