Geocache Description:

A multi at the Catholic church, named Our Lady Star of the Sea, church on St Mary's. To find the cache you'll need to collect the information detailed below:

  • Outside the door of the church there is a sign and if you look closely you will see each letter is held on by nails. The number of nails on the Y equals A
  • The number of nails on the third letter equals B
  • And yes, you knew this was coming! The number of nails in total equals CD. I had to count them too to set up the cache so don't be too harsh! ;)
  • Up on the wall you will see a star, the number of points on it equals E

By now you should have all the information you need to know that the final cache is at:

N49 54.(A+B)(C-B)(E) W006 18.(E-A)(D-B-A)(D+B-A)

Due to proximity issues this is a little way from the church. Please ensure that you replace the container exactly as found including camouflage!

The building which is now the Chapel was erected in 1860 as the island’s primary school for girls and was used as such until 1906 when the school was combined with the boys’ school from what is now the Parish Church Hall in Church Street and transferred to a new building at Carn Thomas.

In 1931 the Catholic community on the island approached the Duchy of Cornwall for the use of a building where they could hold services, and were offered the lease of these premises. Masses were celebrated by priests from the Order of the Canons Regular of the Lateran who would come over by boat on a Saturday and return the following Monday.

Eventually the building was purchased outright from the Duchy in 1949 and came under the control of Plymouth Roman Catholic Diocese. It has always been part of the Parish of the Immaculate Conception (now Holy Family Parish) based in Penzance.
