The 12th-century church consisted of a nave, with a narrower chancel to the east of it, but of this building only the south doorway and part of the south nave wall remain. About 1240 the chancel appears to have been entirely rebuilt of the same width as the nave. The next addition was about 1370, when the south transept was built as a chapel, and at the same period the arch of the early south door was reconstructed and the porch added. The west and south-west walls of the nave were rebuilt, probably when the wood turret was first erected in the 15th century. The aisle was an addition of the 16th century, and many of the windows were altered at the same or a later period. The chief restoration during the past century was undertaken in 1893; the vestry is quite a modern addition. The church became a grade 1 listed building in 1969.
