This cache is located at the end of the Callahan Historic logging and mining rail road trail. The rail road is long gone but a nice trail with benches and interpretive signs describing the past makes this a very interesting and enjoyable walk. The trail is fairly flat and easy to navigate. It is a little over 2 miles in lenght.
The Callahan Historic trail takes you back in time when a narrow gauge rail road brought ore and timber down the canyon to Troy. There were many logging camps and mines in this drainage. The Snowstorm and Big Eight mines were the two biggest in the area. More information about the histroy of this area can be found at the Troy museum and visitors center located on Highway 2 in Troy.
