A large park located on a bend in the Werribee River, it was originally planned as a miniature botanic gardens. It has since become an important sporting venue and now houses a football ground, cricket pitch and practice nets, tennis courts, swimming pool and bowling club.
The park is bounded by Watton Street and the Werribee river and it is here that the explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovell camped on the 19th December 1824. A cairn on the corner of Werribee and Watton Streets, dedicated in 1924 for the centenary, commemorates this.
The Werribee River Trail follows the river as it borders the park and is popular with cyclists, runners and pedestrians. With the trail, a playground, public toilets, picnic tables and a BBQ, Chirnside Park is an ideal place to plan a break in your caching day.
The cache itself is a mint tin. It contains only a log, a pencil and a pencil sharpener.
