La fabbrica dello Zucchero ha iniziato la sua attività nel 1901, impiantata in via Ginori, strada principale che portava a Marina, lontano dalla zona urbana.
Già l’anno dopo, nel 1902, la fabbrica era in crisi e sospese l’attività.
L’agricoltura ancora arretrata non riusciva a tenere il passo con la produzione industriale.
Dopo anni di alti e bassi, anche a causa delle due guerre, l’attività riprende negli anni ‘50 con un processo di ristrutturazione che portò al potenziamento sia dell’impianto cecinese che ad un potenziamento delle zone coltivate a barbabietola, da Migliarino fino alla regione Lazio.
Ma quando la produzione agricola riuscì ad adeguarsi alle richieste industriali, le disposizione CEE del 1978 dettarono regole che crearono nuovi problemi all’Azienda.
Infatti, il contingente di zucchero assegnato a Cecina era inferiore alla sua produzione di cristallino.
Nonostante l'impegno da parte sia delle forze sindacali, che da parte della Sermide di ristrutturare gli impianti, non si ottennero risposte positive.
L’impianto lavorava al massimo delle sue potenzialità ma servì solo ad aumentare i depositi del prodotto finito e di semilavorati e l’Azienda fu posta in liquidazione nel 1982.

The Zucchero factory started its business in 1901, planted in via Ginori, the main road leading to Marina, far from the urban area.
