Geocache Description:

Small tupperware container with trackables, swag, logbook and pen. Please don't keep the trackables for your personal collection, they are intended to travel as far as possible. Log your visit, and if you grab a trackable please remember to log the trackable too. If you don't want the responsibility of placing the trackable in a different cache, just log that you "discovered it" and it will be added to your personal list of discoverd trackables at geocaching.com


Niabi Zoo is a public zoological park in Coal Valley, Illinois serving the Quad Cities. Approximately 250,000 visitors a year make Niabi Zoo one of the area's most popular and largest attractions. Niabi Zoo is home to over 900 animals representing more than 160 species. The zoo's name "Niabi" comes from the Native American Osage Nation language and means "young deer spared by the hunter."

Exhibits

Passport to Africa: The newest area of the zoo is highlighted by a reticulated giraffe habitat featuring a pair of giraffes that guests may feed under staff supervision. Inside the giraffe house are small animal exhibits including sulcata tortoiserock hyrax, and fennec fox. Near the giraffe house are exhibits for colobus monkeys, yards for plains zebrasostriches, and dromedary camel, and a habitat for African lions.

Lion exhibit: A new exhibit for lions is being planned.

Asian Adventure: Current home to White-handed gibbon with plans for unidentified future attractions.

Bird house: Several species of birds including macawscockatoosswans, and kookaburras.

Big cat habitat: Home to leopardsSnow leopards, Amur leopard, African leopards, and bobcats.

Reptile house: An assortment of lizardssnakes, and amphibians.

North American area: Endangered red wolvesbald eagleswapiti, Barbary sheep and North American porcupine

Other exhibits: koi pond and petting zoo

Guest amenities: Playground, picnic areas, pavilions, education center, gift shop, train ride, carousel, and concessions. Several popular events are held annually coinciding with school holidays including Halloween, Easter, and more.
