Geocache Description:

Camp Thunderbird is a YMCA/YWCA camp for children. The camp also allows the public to have access to the trails on their property throughout the year.

We will be hosting a CITO there on Sunday, May 21 from 9:30 am until 12 to assist with clearing some of the trails within the camp. The last three years events were lots of fun and we managed to clear several of the trails within the camp.  There will be staff on site untill 2 pm if you are a bit later returning to the parking area because you're grabbing a cache or two.

We have springtime experience on these trails and know that over the winter, storms have brought down trees, branches and debris onto the many trails that wind their way through and around the camp. We want to lend a hand by offering a few hours of our time to help clear the trails, making them safer and more accessible for everyone to enjoy. The camp volunteers will give us direction and maps to guide us to the trails and areas of the camp where we can do the most good. Please bring gloves and if possible a rake or to make the clearing of the trails quick and efficient. From past experience, a small saw or an axe also make the job much easier.  In past years the caretaker has loaned us a few hand saws but if you really like yours then please bring it along.  We do not need to bag or bundle any of the debris, we are just clearing it off the trails. The camp staff will handle the biggest parts of the blow down that we cannot move out of the way but it's lots of fun to hack up a log into smaller pieces.

Just like last year, they are no longer allowing dogs on their property for this event.

If you can make it out for this CITO, your reward will be a bit of exercise, the chance to explore and enjoy these beautiful trails and the warm feeling from helping out a wonderful, local community camp.  We will have a log sheet for you to sign in with.

Camp Thunderbird is located at the north end of Glinz Lake Road which is just past the 17 Mile Pub if you’re coming from downtown.  There is a big sign for the camp to help you with where you should turn.  There is plenty of parking at ground zero.
