Mount Kilimanjaro with its three volcanic cones, "Kibo", "Mawenzi", and "Shira", is a dormant volcano in Tanzania; and is the highest mountain in Africa. The origin of the name is not precisely known, a number of theories do exist; but has generally been understood to mean "Mountain of Greatness". The first people known to have reached the summit of the mountain were Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller in 1889. [Wikipedia]
Located in the northern section of Avon Valley National Park. Access is via unsealed roads, mostly by 4WD, though regular 2WD cars could make it (as did I) with careful driving; but best avoided after heavy rainfall. Do keep alert during periods of extreme fire danger risk. Stay hydrated.
