Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain on Europe continent, and the tenth most prominent peak in the world. Elbrus has two summits, both of which are dormant volcanic domes; the west summit taller than east. The name Elbrus is a metathesis of Alborz, which is also the name of a long mountain range in northern Iran; derived from Avestan Harā Bərəzaitī, a legendary mountain in Iranian mythology. Loosely translates as: "high", "tall", "watch" or "guard".
Mont Blanc (4,808m borders France & Italy) is the highest mountain in Western Europe.

Located in the northern section of Avon Valley National Park. Access is via unsealed roads, mostly by 4WD, though regular 2WD cars could make it (as did I) with careful driving; but best avoided after heavy rainfall. Do keep alert during periods of extreme fire danger risk. Stay hydrated.
