The Sunken Treasure of Fishtrap Lake Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

irvingdog: The water is still pleasant to swim in, but in a few short weks it will be quite cold. Therefore, I have archived the cache due to my not being able to get to it again until 3 weeks from now. Way to go Jonsom! Hope you liked it. Now I have a 35 pound terrestrial cache to place somewhere.

Geocache Description:

A first attempt at an underwater cache. It is not visible by boat, although it is not terribly deep. You will need to bring or rent a boat, and you will need to get wet.

Ammo boxes are cool things! I've hidden this one in a naturally occuring rock formation. DO NOT FLIP OVER BOULDERS. The cache is hidden on a rocky peninsula that you SHOULD NOT TRY TO BOAT ACROSS. Go around. Use common boating sense to avoid ruining your prop. Anchor at the marker, and hop in. I suggest bringing a mask, snorkel, fins, and a towel. Placing your GPSr in several Ziploc bags will keep it dry. Please, do not go to shore. This is private property. (Mine) . After you've logged the find, check for a couple of bird dogs. You may see a German wirehaired pointer, and a Springer Spaniel (Irving) up on shore. They are friendly, but only if I say so. Don't assume and just pull up to shore! If you see my dogs, give a holler, and wave hello. Next season, this cache will be moved to a more challenging location. Probably deeper and more remote. Boats are available at a couple of local merchants. The Stop (218-575-2414) and The Country View Resort (218-575-2432). The Stop's boat is cheaper, but Roy only has the one. Both provide a boat, motor, life jacket gas and an anchor. The public access to this lake is clearly marked if you bring your own boat. The cache originally contained: Emergency whistle Velcro Strap Key Tender Iron plant hanger frog Scorpion Medallion Lock and Key Light Saber Pen Candles Hand Carved Dream Catcher Lure Extension cord Guardian angel Costa Rican money (colones) French Money (Francs) Snapdragon and Zinnia seeds A really nifty "Search and Rescue" log book and pens A baggie of glass beads to represent droplets of water. Take a few to remember your soggy experience. Ballast weight wrapped in duct tape. Leave them there please. After you've found it, please dry yourself and the outside of the cache off prior to opening it. I'd really like to keep it as dry as possible inside. The arial photo inside of the cache is not correct. The place I originally wanted to hide it in drew out some unfriendly neighbors who vowed to find and plunder the cache. As long as you have a boat in Fishtrap lake for the day, I strongly suggest you bring the fishing gear. This is an amazing lake for panfish and bass. Lots and lots of walleye, but they are tough to get to bite.
