May 4 is considered a holiday by some Star Wars fans and geocachers to celebrate the franchise's film series, books and culture. The date was chosen for the easy pun on the catchphrase "May the Force be with you" - "May the Fourth be with you". Even though the holiday was not actually created or declared by Lucasfilm, many fans across the world choose to celebrate the holiday. Some continue the holiday for another 24 hours into May 5 to commemorate the 3rd prequel in the Star Wars series, Revenge of the Sith, which gives us Revenge of the 5th. Since I did not have the chance to host an event that day, I suppose June 5th will work just as well.
After hosting an event on May the 4th earlier this year, I wound up with a few leftover coins that were available for purchase that evening. Combine that with the fact that I have always enjoyed doing TB exchange events in the city, I decided to host and event to do both during a lunchtime gathering near my office.
So come on down to the plaza area on the SE corner of Park Avenue and 53rd Street for a event on June 5, 2017 from 12:00 noon until about 1:00 PM. There will be Cache Wars coins available for purchase if you are interested. There will be trackables to discover and move along. Or just come on down, sign the log and say hello to your fellow geocachers.
There are a couple of really good food trucks nearby if you are looking for lunch, plus a few of the NYPL caches are within walking distance if you have not gotten them yet =)
