Geocache Description:

The four caches I placed in this area are fairly straightforward and findable. Cache is a bit down the path of a Nature Trail. There is also a Little Library and bench near the entrance for relaxing. BYOP. Watch your footing as logs and branches near GZ

The "Flats" is a shallow water area in Green Bay off the shores of Menekaunee (Marinette, WI). Historically, the 'flats' were muddy and swampy. During the year of the Great Fire of 1871, the 'flats' were totally dry and the entire town of Menekaunee was burned to the ground. Presently, the water ranges from 1-6 feet deep for nearly a mile from the shore. When I moved to Marinette in 1980, the 'flats' was where my new husband taught me to windsurf. It was a perfect place for this newbie, who spent days falling off and climbing back on the board, to finally catch the wind in the sails and catch the windsurfing fever for many years. Now, much older, I walk my dog KC along W. Bay Shore and enjoy the beauty of the "Flats".
