CM 23 - RED JOHN

05 May 2017

A worker from the Water Company was checking the pipe line at N 52 03.695 E 7 34.951 when she was assaulted and killed. Her corpse appeared in the road, between the signals with the name of the place and a post from the “water system”. The face of Red John was drawn in the ground.

The press covered the news. Some media groups said the murder was perpetrated by Red John while others, police among them, though it was the action of a false Red John. Teresa Lisbon and Parick Jane began an investigation… They searched for hints on the spot with no good results. After a while, Patrick realized the name of the road was connected to water and checked in the “water post” carefully. And he discovered it… four numbers were engraved behind the post: two up, two down. It could be the hint they were looking for.

10 May 2017

Another female, a horse rider, was murdered in front of the sculpture at N 52 03.669 E 7 34.757. This time, there was no doubt about the murder: Not only the face of Red John but also the toenails of the victim were painted with blood. That made Patrick Jane furious as it reminded of him his wife's assassination…

This time, Lisbon knew what to search for. She looked at the signal with the horse and discovered the numbers. Two numbers: one up and one down. Red John was giving hints…

15 May 2017

An old lady appeared killed in a bench at N 52 04.072 E 7 33.146. There was no face of Red John but the lady had a copy of William Blake's poem “Tyger, Tyger” in her hands:

Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright

In the forest of the night

What immortal hand or eye

Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

Patrick immediately knew who the murderer was and searched for another hint. Just following the symmetry, with his hands and eyes, he discovered two more numbers engraved behind the bench.

Seated on the bench, Teresa Lisbon and Patrick Jane studied all the numbers they found. After some minutes, they understood their meaning but… two numbers were missing… another murder?

20 May 17

And it did not take longer. At N 52 03.695 E 7 32.845.

A man with a dog. It was the first time Red John killed a man, and also an animal. They appeared tied to the post. The meaning was unclear, and no Red John signs were seen in the vicinity. Everything was strange.

Nevertheless, the numbers were there. In the post. They were repeated and not very well engraved but they were there. For sure.

So, Lisbon and Jane completed the formula and followed the arrow of their compass. When they arrived at Ground Zero, they saw it:

"Red John thinks of himself as a showman; an artist. He has a strong sense of theater ... the first thing that anyone sees is the face on the wall. You see the face first and you know. You know what's happened and you feel dread. Then, and only then do you see the body of the victim. Always in that order."
