KT73 will be held at the Hartshead (menus/information available by clicking on the related website link). We have our own restaurant area reserved from 6pm (Wednesday 14th June) onwards. The event will keep to the regular KT formula of of food, drink and geochat and the plan will be for a small series of caches to be published at 8pm which will allow us to have a social group walk up to Hartshead Pike, where on a nice evening you can enjoy superb views. This won't be a difficult walk as the pub is already well elevated, and further details will be announced nearer the time. The event will officially end at 9:30pm although you are of course welcome to stay longer.
The monument is not situated on the highest point, but rather the beacon point of the hill. It is possible to see the counties of Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Derbyshire from the Pike and so we encourage anyone from any of these countries, and beyond, to join us. There has been a building on the hill for centuries. The present tower built in 1863, is the third on the site. In the 1930s the tower was open to the public and contained a sweet shop; it closed at the outbreak of the Second World War and it has been a listed building since 1967. The inscription above the tower's entrance reads "Look well at me Before you go And See You nothing at me throw".
As with all my events, all are welcome. KT has long since not been a group of regulars and we welcome all attendees. The events move around the area and attract different people in each different place.
