Thai people are very revered monks who have attained enlightenment during the lifetime, they build them statues in the temples, wear their images in amulets around the neck, and they honestly believe that these monks even after the death can still help people.
This monk’s name is Por Than Klai, he died in 1970 at the age of 94, during his lifetime he reached a state in which he was able to work miracles: to heal hopelessly sick people and to predict the fates. Such states are achieved by rejection of worldly life, asceticism and meditations.
After his death the monk’s body has mummified, it was tried to cremate 3 times but it did not work – only one toe was burned. Now his body is located at one of the Buddhist temples.
Under the statue there is a hall for prayer with the smaller statue inside. The temple is located downstair. You can clean the karma by putting the coins in special bowls. Here is also the Wax Museum.
At the entrance you will be met by 9-face Buddha.
The museum has three halls, on the right – with Hindu gods and on the left – with Chinese (Thai Buddhism combines many different beliefs). And in the middle there is a large hall with full size wax figures of monks and abbots of the temple, sitting in the lotus position. Statues look very realistic, the light is pretty dark, the monks sit like they are alive, and all it makes to feel a little uneasy.
The location of Wat Manee Si Mahathat is far from tourist routes, so you can only come here on purpose. There are always only few visitors, therefore you will enjoy the atmosphere of calm and relaxation
