Tardebigge locks, lock 54, step to it Traditional Cache

A series of caches of varying types and sizes running along the Tardebigge flight of Locks. This flight has the dubious honour of being the longest flight in the UK (and technically the world).

This cache is located near to lock 54 where there stands an old house. You're looking for a small sample tube. Please do not go down the steps, the driveway at the bottom is private land.

Care must always be taken around canals, the banks can be very dangerous especially in wet or icy conditions and the water can be very deep with unusual undercurrents. Do NOT allow children to search unattended, for their safety. 

The house by this lock was likely erected for a canal employee to look after the nearby Tardebigge Lake or for a lock keeper.

Tardebigge Lake is a large feeder reservoir, about 25 acres (100,000 m²) in size, built to supply water for the famous flight of locks running from Tardebigge towards Worcester, on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. It is maintained by The Canal & River Trust and still supplies water to the canal system. The lake is up to 40-foot (12 m) deep at the dam end, shelving off to around 15 feet (4.6 m) at the inlet end.

Access to walkers is allowed to the dam end and the side of the lake alongside the canal path.
