Geocache Description:

There are three types of rocks on Earth- igneous rocks, which are the direct result of the cooling of volcanic magma, sedimentary rocks, which come from the layering of debris and sediment getting compacted and cemented together, and metamorphic rocks, which are changed or "morphed" rocks due to conditions of high temperature and pressure.

Colorado is full of many beautiful rocks and rock formations, including the Lyons formations outside of Lyons. The rock that the coordinates bring you to was extracted from a quarry in that area. To get credit for this earth cache, message or email me the answers for the following questions, for which the answers are easily found near the rock sample:

Please do not post the answers in your log!

1. What TYPE of rock is this (igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic)?
2. What specific kind of rock is this?
3. During which period and era were the Lyons formations formed?
4. How did the particles that made up these beds get there?  What is another way that particles can migrate?
5. (Not required) If you have time, snap and post a selfie of you/ your group in front of one of the many rocks on this block :)

Have fun, and enjoy Boulder!
