Geocache Description:

Rum is the largest of the Small Isles, a group of islands south of Skye. In partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage, in June 2017 I visited to collect abandoned caches and set fresh ones, with the intention of encouraging Geocachers to visit and experience this wild and beautiful miniature kingdom. Please dress for the weather, and expect a change of weather! Cache with care and consideration, and look up from your GPS or phone to enjoy this unique location.

Introduction: Straight off the ferry and feeling the need to cache? Your first stop on Rum (after gathering info for the letterbox at the quay, perhaps?) should be here, on the Blue Path to the Otter Hide. Look out for muggles as this is one of the busier paths on Rum.

The location: Into the woods (danger of midges!) and towards an abandoned village, to a cute little bridge and a quick find, I hope. If you've been here before, you may remember this cache from 2006-14/17.

The route: Pass the waiting room at the top of the quay, and follow the road to the right. Very shortly, on your left is a gravel path, with a blue otter waymark. Follow this into the woods and you'll soon be at this cache.

The terrain: Fairly flat and easy. This is perhaps my easiest to get to cache on Rum :)

The name: Well, the cache was going to use Troll as a clue, and they're certainly rum fellows!

Please rehide this cache with care as it is in a fairly exposed location. On downhill side of the bridge, it should protect the box, even after heavy rain. Please make sure it's well hidden after finding it, as obviously this is a popular and busy (for Rum!) route. Thank you.

My other Rum caches:
Rum Runner.
Rum Truffles.
Red Rum.
Rum Deal.
Rum Do.
Rum Bunch.
Rum and Coke.
Rum Punch.
Eilean Rum (Isle of Rum, Small Isles).

Finally, sincere thanks to Scottish Natural Heritage for permission to hide this cache in the Rum National Nature Reserve and to Sean, who's its local guardian. I hope it brings extra visitors to their remarkable island.
