Geocache Description:

Looking west from the Checkpoint Charlie track

Enjoy a new walking track circuit which starts at the Sledge Track and crosses a new swing bridge over the Kahuterawa Stream.

This 8km walk takes about 2 1/2 hours depending on stops. It starts from the car park at the end of Kahuterawa Road (waypoint).  Take the Sledge track entrance (signposted) and walk for about 45 minutes until you come to a new swing bridge which crosses the Kahuterawa Stream.   From here the new track climbs steeply up to the open tops of the Arapuke mountain bike park.  Good views can be enjoyed in fine weather.  Follow the wide gravel and dirt track “Checkpoint Charlie” to reach this cache. This is a shared track for walkers and mountain bikers.  The walking circuit then continues downhill on the Pupu Rahi track and the Back Track to return to the car park.

The tops are open and exposed.  Warm clothing and a raincoat should be carried, plus water and snacks.  Sturdy footwear is recommended as the track is quite muddy in places.

The container is a plastic screw top jar, approximately 250ml.
