Geocache Description:

Visit the Museum and learn about the historic M4E8 Sherman tank!

As part of Canada 150 celebrations in 2017, community organizations such as the Ontario Regiment Museum and City of Oshawa Recreation Centres, and , Arts Resource Centre) have collaborated to create a geocaching adventure. Each cache tells a unique story about Oshawa's history and heritage. This initiative encourages residents to explore Oshawa’s parks, trails and various community sites to learn more about significant events in Canada’s and Oshawa’s history. Welcome new recruit to the Ontario Regiment Geocache unit! Your first mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find a Geocache hidden on a Sherman tank at The Ontario Regiment Museum. You must "crack the code" to access the cache and fill out the logbook to prove that you completed the mission! If you want to prove that you are a valuable member of the Ontario Regiment Geocache unit, you must leave behind an army related item in the cache and take one with you as a souvenir. Good Luck! First, make your way to The Ontario Regiment Museum. The museum is located at 1000 Stevenson Rd. N. Oshawa, Ontario or at the coordinates 43.916812, -78.894836. If you are driving, park in the parking lot in front of the museum. Please exercise caution at all times when traveling near any museum vehicles on site. The cache can be found within a "gate-guard" display M4E8 Sherman tank which is parked behind the museum at the coordinates 43.916611, -78.896322. In order to reach these coordinates from the museum parking lot, make your way West along the road, towards the "tank track". At the end of the road, turn left or South and proceed towards the two identical Sherman tanks parked side-by-side in front of the entrance to a large hanger. The cache is hidden within a locked ammo box found along the tracks of the green Sherman tank, the one closest to the entrance of the building. Can you spot the cache? Hint: there is no need to climb under the vehicle! In order to access the cache you must unlock the combination lock on the ammo box by answering the following three questions correctly. For each question, you will be given four options, each represented by a number. Your answer to the three questions are imputed into the lock by selecting the corresponding number to each answer; the first question being the top number on the lock, second, the middle number and third, the bottom number. All answers can be found through research on the museums' website (http://www.ontrmuseum.ca/). 1. The club of volunteers, established in 1985, which maintain and restore the museums vehicle collection is called the... 1- Tanker Club 2- Ferret Club 3- Restoration Club 4- Sherman Club 2. In addition to its monthly "Tank Day's", the museum hosts Canada's largest military show called _____ Tank Weekend, on the last weekend of every May. The event is named after a famous battle which the regiment took part in during WW2. 1- Aquino 2- Dieppe 3- Dunkirk 4- Arnhem 3. Museum vehicles have been featured in various media productions and are always available for rent for a variety of uses such as movie productions, event displays and photo shoots. One of the most prominent productions featuring a museum vehicle was... 1- A photo shoot for the Toronto Blue Jays 2- The movie "Saving Private Ryan" 3- A commercial for Tim Horton's 4- The music video for Our Lady Peace's song "Naveed" If you are able to open the cache, congratulations! Please fill out your information in the logbook. If possible please leave behind an item for a future Geocacher to take with them (preferably army related) and take an item for yourself! Please lock and secure the cache where you found it to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to find it.
