Geocache Description:

This is the 8th in a series of Tour de Empire caches, part of a challenge. This is a major tree climb.  Scout it if you need to, get your TOTTS, get a young monkey, and go for it. Do not try to remove the cache, leave it there. Make sure you take some tweezers and a pen in order to sign the log.

Note:  Don't try this if you aren't comfortable going up this gorgeous tree.  Find a monkey who can do it safely. The cache is just like the others wired to the tree, someone in your team must get up there to sign the cache. I used a rope for the first part.



Nice climbing tree, if you can get started.

Note: there is no public entrance to the park from Cedar Ridge. Start from Gold Hill parking lot, or the church on Colfax highway.


Note2 : Here is a cool video on the Prussik knot. Prussik knots can be used to ascend and descend a rope. You attach one prussik to your harness (you can make that with rope as well). You step in the 2nd prussik loop. Then you alternate standing and sitting, while raising the opposite prussik loop on the rope. Hard core rock climbers and arborists would not like this but for getting up to a 10 foot branch without a ladder, it works! Takes a little practice. Prussik Loop

Take some tweezers and a pen up the tree to make sure you can extract and sign the log.
