Geocache Description:

As with most of my cache sites this one has a view to dream about. This one looks out over some great Bryce Canyon type country and the Grand Staircase Nat. Monument. On a good day you can see forever. Well almost, in the spring you can see the snow capped peaks near Flagstaff Ariz. to the south. To the southeast the mountain with the round top is Navajo Mountain (near Rainbow Bridge/Lake Powell) about 100 miles away.

This cache is 25 miles of dirt/gravel road each way from highway 12 near Bryce Canyon. For the first 24 miles any high clearance vehicle will do in good weather as the roads are maintained that far. The last mile is not maintained very often and has some deep ruts that will be muddy if it has rained or if it is early in the spring. Travel in this area by ATV is a no brainier as there are many ATV side trails with great views also. If you are bringing your ATV send me an e-mail and I’ll send you a map for the best ATV ride you will ever take. This whole area is just beautiful and you will enjoy the drive. We have seen deer, elk, antelope and wild turkey on every trip.

There are 3 survey markers at this site. Two are a few feet away and pointing to the main marker. Go figure! Maybe they thought that if one fell off into the canyon or was destroyed the other two would do. I think if one goes they all go.

There are lots of roads in this area and a couple ways to get to the cache site. I’m going to layout the best and easy way for those that don’t want to wander around and may not have the proper vehicle for all the roads and trails. If you want to do it the hard way stop reading right here.

From highway #12 about 2 miles west of the turn off to Bryce Canyon take the dirt road (N 37° 42.264 / W 112° 12.120) and head south to Tropic Res. We unload and start riding our ATVs at the southwest end of Tropic Res. and take the long hard way to the cache area. For those traveling by full size vehicle continue south on the main road and turn left at Crawford Canyon (approx. 18.5 miles from the highway, N 37° 28.204 / W 112° 18.427.) When you get to the four-way intersection at the top of the canyon (approx. 21 miles, N 37° 26.524 / W 112° 17.935 ) take the hard right option up the hill to the west. Don’t miss a really great view stop at ( N 37° 26.437 / W 112°18.811 .) This is just a short trail up the bank to the east. Most people just hop up there on foot. Some jerks ride their ATV’s. Please walk, it is only about 50 feet. Take your camera or you are going to end up climbing it twice. The final turn to the cache is at (N 37° 25.922 / W 112° 19.413.) Enjoy!
