Portheras Barrow

A round barrow with a stone cist, Labelled on the Ordnance Survey maps as a "Cairn". Located up against a stone wall, overgrown with gorse and bracken. The monument scheduling says that a cupped stone may have been found in the barrow during an 18th century excavation. The local landowning family of Borlase were interested in investigating these ancient monuments. The is a relatively recent find and shows the barrow covering the stones in part. An excellent example of an uncovered Quoit of this type is Chun Quoit...visible, to the north, on the hilltop, from the GZ, on a clear day.
