] Teatrul Național „Vasile Alecsandri” este cel mai vechi Teatru Național din Moldova fiind înființat în 1840 sub direcțiunea lui Costache Negruzzi, Vasile Alecsandri și Mihail Kogălniceanu. Inițial sediul Teatrului Național a funcționat, începând cu 22 decembrie 1846, în clădirea Teatrului cel Mare din Copou care a fost mistuită de un incendiu în 18 februarie 1888. În 1897, pe locul fostului teatru a fost inaugurat Palatul Universității Al. I. Cuza.
Actuala clădire a Teatrului National a fost construită între anii 1894-1896 pe locul vechii primării și a fostei Mănăstiri Dancu.
Planurile clădirii aparțin celebrilor arhitecți vienezi Fellner și Helmer, ce au proiectat construcții similare din Viena, Praga, Odessa, Zürich.
În anul 1956, cu prilejul aniversării a 140 de ani de la primul spectacol în limba română, teatrul ieșean primește numele marelui poet, dramaturg și om de cultură Vasile Alecsandri (1821 - 1890). În prezent, această clădire găzduiește și Opera Națională Română Iași.
Deasupra porticului de la intrare este un altorelief cu personaje mitologice: în mijloc, Calliope, fiica lui Zeus, considerată muza poeziei lirice ce sugerează cântecul, muzica, filosofia. Este flancată de Hercule cu leul și de Dyonissos cu tigrul, simboluri ale puterii și al caracterului festiv al reprezentațiilor teatrale. La colțurile pedimentului, Sofocle ține în mână masca tragediei, iar Aristofan, „prințul comediei antice” este lângă masca veselă. Pe fațade se prezintă stema României de la acea vreme (Moldova, Muntenia, Oltenia și Dobrogea) și emblema Iașului de atunci, un turn circular având la bază doi pești.
Inaugurată odată cu teatrul, Uzina Electrică din lateratul clădirii, a marcat începutul iluminatului electric la Iași. În parcul din stânga teatrului este statuia lui Avram Goldfaden, poet, dramaturg, regizor și actor evreu de limba idiș si ebraică, considerat părintele teatrului evreiesc modern.

] "Vasile Alecsandri" National Theater is the oldest National Theater from Moldova region, founded in 1840 under the direction of Costache Negruzzi, Vasile Alecsandri and Mihail Kogalniceanu. Initially, the headquarters of the National Theater functioned in 1846, in the Copou Grand Theater building which was burned by a fire in 1888. In 1897, on the place of the theater was inaugurated the Palace of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University.
The current building of the National Theater was built between 1894-1896 on the site of the old town hall and the former Dancu Monastery.
The building's plans belong to the famous viennese architects Fellner and Helmer, who designed similar buildings in Vienna, Prague, Odessa and Zurich. Inaugurated with the theater, its electric plant marked the beginning of the electrical lighting in Iasi.
Above the entrance you can see mythological characters: in the middle, Calliope, the daughter of Zeus, considered to be the muse of lyrical poetry that suggests the song, music, philosophy. It is flanked by Hercules with the lion and Dyonissos with the tiger, symbols of the power and the festive character of theatrical representations. At the corners of the pediment, Sofocle holds the mask of the tragedy, and Aristofan, "the prince of the ancient comedy", is next to the cheerful mask. On the lateral facades are the coat of arms of Romania and the historical regions: Moldova, Muntenia, Oltenia and Dobrogea, and the emblem of Iasi city, a circular tower based on two fish.
In 1956, on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the first Romanian show, the Iasi theater receives the nameof the great poet, playwright and cultured man Vasile Alecsandri (1821-1890). Today, this building houses the Romanian National Opera Iasi.
In the park from the left side of the theatre is the statue of Abram Goldfaden, a poet, playwright, director and Jewish actor in Yiddish and Hebrew, considered the father of modern Jewish theater.
