On June 15th I was maintaining a cache of mine (GC6GRNF) that needed only a fresh log sheet. I parked my car and started walking towards the cache when I heard some squawks that sounded like a cry for help. I walked over and in the 6 inch thick grass was a Parrot! which I found out later to be a Blue Crown Conure to be exact.
It seemed in distress and I was able to wrap it in my coat and take it home. Not sure how he got there but I was going to try to find it's owner or try to nurse it back to health, It had a good meal and a good nights sleep and the next day it was ok in the morning and even had a shower, that it enjoyed, but he had some balance problems and could not fly.... Wings clipped? did not know at the time.
By mid afternoon though poor Cache took a turn for the worse and was not well, we called the Humane society and they came to take the poor little guy to the Vet..... Turns out his injuries were too severe and Cache needed to be put to sleep.
It turns out the wings were not clipped, but the wings were damaged by injury
He was with us only for about 18 hours but I feel that at least he got a good last meal and some companionship in it's final day.
Oddly enough I had this cache container ready to go into the field for weeks now but looking at it today I knew it had to be a memorial cache for Cache.
Thank-you to Kitaana (Catherine for helping me care for the bird and falling in love with it just as I did, and Thanks to My Wonderful Geo-wife and real life Fiance MrsOgre (Diane) for being with me in my hour of need when I heard that poor Cache had to be put to sleep.
