Weymouth Ruins
Hello
everyone, we had a very busy winter and are very excited about the coming
summer. . . we had planned to get this cache out of mouth balls, alas, time is
short. Now tneigel has started a new cache with a great thyme of his own. We are
hoping that there is room for us to bring back our cache with a different thyme.
Tneigel's thyme is based on the Historical value of the important local
treasure. We on the other hand would like to highlight the recreational aspect.
The Boys and I have loved this park
from the first time we visited. We have launched many Kayak and Tubing trips
from here and Penny Pot Park. We like the idea of virtual caches, and the fact
that our last cache was found blowing around in the wind concerned us. What was
a well hidden game piece became litter at the hands of some thoughtless
individuals. We are also aware about the debate with the National Park Service
as to whether a cache box is a game piece of unattended property. i.e. trash. .
. With that said, we want to hear about your adventures here, no matter
what you
This park is located on Route 559
(Weymouth Road) just north of Route 322. It is about 11 acres.
This was the original site of an iron furnace and paper mill in the 1800's,
located right on the Great Egg Harbor River (non-tidal). Now it is a good site
to load or unload your canoe or kayak, or a good picnic site. There are seasonal
port-a-pot facilities. Take care not to damage the ruins that can still be seen.
