TrailGrams

An Easy Puzzle Cache for Hikers

!!! NOTE:  There is no cell service in this area, so if you are a phone app user, you will need to pre-load or use a standard GPS receiver!!!

Take a beautiful hike on Millcreek Canyon's Pipeline Trail and solve an easy puzzle to find this cache.  This is one of the easiest trails in the Wasatch.  It is very popular with hikers, mountain bikers and dogs.  Expect weekends to be busy, so if possible, plan on an alternate time to make searching easier.

Solving the puzzle will involve finding 11 "regular" geocaches along the trail, collecting a clue from each and using them to find this twelfth and final cache in the series.  Including other caches along the way, you might score up to 19 finds (in the following order):

TrailGrams 1 (A bit further, take a sharp switchback to the right)

Castaway's Treasure (A Regular, and no longer a Multi)

TrailGrams 2

TrailGrams 3

TrailGrams 4

TrailGrams 5

Dalmatia Tor (A short side trip)

TrailGrams 6

TrailGrams 7

TrailGrams 8

TrailGrams 9

TrailGrams 10

Only 24 Hours?

TrailGrams 11

Rare Aire 1 (And the start of another trail of caches)

To make a great loop, consider returning on the Millcreek Canyon Road.  The road is closed to most car traffic from November 1 to June 30 each year.  You can find these caches along the road:

Evergreen

Millcreek A-Z

Maple Cove

White Bridge

And finally...

TrailGrams Final (This cache)

You can park and start your hike at TrailGrams 1.  Visit sites 1 through 11 as you follow the trail.  GPS reception is decreased here, so be sure to use the hints if you don't want to spend all day searching!  The hints have been designed to make the finds much easier.

Watch for mountain bikes and the possibility of rattlesnakes along the trail.  Dogs are welcome, but are best kept leashed.  The hiking distance is 2 miles on the Pipeline Trail and 1.5 miles if returning on the road.

If you decide to start at the top of the trail, at Elbow Fork, be aware that the "Pipeline Trail" sign on the road points to the Mt. Aire Trail.  The Pipeline Trail is just a few feet down the road.  That arrow has caused quite a bit of confusion!  I have encountered mountain bikers struggling up to Mt. Aire, thinking they were on the much easier Pipeline!

Most of the caches should be accessible in all but heavy snow.  If you are hiking in winter, you might have to guess on a couple of clue words if the caches are buried!

The (easy!) puzzle:  The logs for TrailGrams 1 through 11 contain randomly scrambled word clues.  Arrange the letters of each one to make COMMON words.  Only the "TrailGrams" caches contain clues - the others along the way do not.

Arrange the words in order (1-11) and you will have a statement telling you how to find this final cache.

OK, despite the reference to "Grams" in the title, these aren't technically anagrams, which are scrambled words that form other words.  These are just plain scrambled!

If you have a problem unscrambling any (most should be easy), try waiting until you get a few, then seeing how they might be used to form the solution phrase.  Or...use your smart phone and search for "anagram solver"...but don't expect a good cell signal is this area!

If you enjoyed this puzzle hike and are headed to Seaside, Oregon, consider its inspiration:  Tillamook Head Games.

Enjoy the hike, the puzzle, and stay safe!
