Ferrara di Monte Baldo
ll comune di Ferrara di Monte Baldo è sicuramente il comune della provincia di Verona che conta meno abitanti in assoluto, infatti ad oggi risultano residenti 211 cittadini e di questi solo 65 sono vi dimorano continuativamente anche nel periodo invernale.
Il piccolo centro di Ferrara di Monte Baldo siede in posizione panoramica sul versante orientale del Monte Baldo, in una conca verdeggiante situata quasi a mezza costa, sospesa tra la valle dell’Adige a oriente e le cime del Monte Baldo a occidente e a settentrione.
Attraverso Ferrara passano gli itinerari più affascinanti del Monte Baldo, da quello automobilistico che sale all’Orto Botanico di Novezzina e continua attraverso boschi e vasti panorami sino alla Bocca di Navene (m 1430, con vista sul lago), a quelli per escursioni a piedi fino a Punta Telegrafo (m 2200), con il suo immenso panorama a 360 gradi, o fino a Cima Valdritta (m 2218).
Il nome di Ferrara quasi certamente trae origine dai giacimenti di ferro che i Romani sfruttavano nella valle facendovi lavorare gli schiavi.
Sul Monte Baldo fu combattuta anche la prima guerra d'indipendenza fra Piemontesi e Austriaci. Il confine tra l'Italia e l'Austria correva, fino al 1915 appena oltre il paese. A Novezza si possono tutt'ora vedere quelle che furono le trincee della prima guerra mondiale. I boschi e le grotte di Ferrara diedero ricovero e rifugio ai Partigiani della Brigata Avesani, nel corso della Guerra di Liberazione.

The municipality of Ferrara of Monte Baldo is certainly the municipality of the province of Verona that counts less inhabitants in absolute, in fact today are residents 211 citizens. Of these only 65 are resident in the winter period.
The small center of Ferrara of Monte Baldo sits in a panoramic position on the eastern slope of Mount Baldo, in a green valley situated almost halfway between the coast, suspended between the Adige Valley to the east and the peaks of Mount Baldo to the west and north.
Through Ferrara pass the most fascinating itineraries of Monte Baldo, from the automotive itinerary that rises to the botanic Garden of Novezzina and continues through woods and vast panoramas to the Bocca di Navene (m 1430, overlooking the lake), to those for hiking up to Punta Telegraph (m2200), with its immense panorama at 360 degrees, or up to Cima Valdritta (m 2218).
The name of Ferrara almost certainly originates from the iron deposits that the Romans exploited in the valley making the slaves work.
The first war of independence between Piemontesi and Austrian was also fought on Mount Baldo. The border between Italy and Austria ran until 1915 just beyond the village. At the same time you can still see the trenches of the First World War.
The woods and caves of Ferrara gave shelter and refuge to the partisans of the Brigade Avesani, during the war of Liberation.
