We hiked down from Pinecrest and up and along this lonely ridge and had a great time. When you reach the top of the Pinecrest ridge, just continue down the trail heading east until it descends to the north to meet up with this ridge. The direct route would likely not be enjoyable. We are curious about the mining roads that end up here and appear to have been carved up from Red Butte Canyon long ago. There are some apparent aged excavations into the wall of the peak and debris piles, but no visible shafts like near the Pinecrest 7 cache below. We headed west and had to weave back and forth on the ridge and beside it. There was mild bushwhacking in spots, but less than Pinecrest 1 and 2. We reached the edge and wanted to cross over to Black Mountain or The Lonely Mountain, but decided that the canyon was going to be way too much of a pain to descend in thick brush with no trail. So we hid this cache on a brushy highpoint with a nice view.
The hide was an impromptu decision because it was a fun area, so the original container was just a Powerade bottle. Thank you to Seawind for the cache-aid! He provided a very nice new container and log that fit the spot perfectly.
Looking at Lonely Mountain from another lonely mountain. Gorgeous views of the valley beyond.
The mountain to the north looks like a giant sliced it with a knife.
This is the view back the way we came. It looks much worse than it is. There is open space.
