CaptainJ served on the 2017 HnS Committee, sharing duties with Team Schnauzer as Executive Co-Chairperson and Lead person for the Logistics Team.  You may recognize the name CaptainJ as the CO of a series of Aviation-themed caches placed around the State of Iowa. CaptainJ was a big asset to this year's HnS.  Thank-you, CaptainJ for your dedication and committment in making HnS 2017 a success.

A=In the early 1920's J. Herman Banning (originally from Oklahoma) went to Chicago with the dream of becoming a pilot. When he tried to enter aviation school, no school would admit him because of his race. So he took lessons from Ray Fisher of Des Moines and moved to Ames to attend Iowa State College. Banning became the first black citizen to receive a pilot's license from the government. What was the issued number on Banning's pilot license? Add all digits together. Subtract 8

B=After receiving his pilot's license, Banning became a demonstration pilot on the west coast, flying a bi-plane. Count the number of letters in the name of the plane. Subtract 8

C=What year was Banning born? Use the last digit of the year. Add 4

D=Banning was killed in a plane crash during an air show at Camp Kearny military base in San Diego on February 5th of what year? Add the first two digits of the year. Subtract 2
