Geocache Description:

This series of caches is located on a pleasant walking loop between Poolsbrook and the Markham Vale reclamation site. The caches are placed just off the paths, with the permission of Chesterfield Council and Derbyshire Council. For details about the themes, bonus cache and history see the longer description on the first cache in the Loop: R.E.C.L.A.I.M. - 5, 6, 7, 8.

The R.E.C.L.A.I.M. series is a collection of Revamped Everyday Containers Lurking Amidst Industrial Memories, as the caches are in an area littered with signs of old railway links, mining and industrial areas, although this has now been flattened as part of the reclamation and you can see huge new buildings being created.

After finding cache 7 'Under The Bridge' you will need to continue your loop across the bridge and follow this recently created path around another new lake. The path then dips slightly and used to turn into a grassy trail at this point but as you can see the path is now wide and stone surfaced.

The cache is off to the left on an oak tree. There are a few brambles and long grasses to get to it, but if you take a 45 degree angle off the path to it before you get to the nearest point from the path to the tree, then you should avoid the heavier undergrowth. There are a few prickly hawthorn trees around around the oak too so watch out. The cache is fairly visible when you get close, and now at a lower height for children and adults; You will need to unscrew the bolt on the front a bit to release the inner cache container, but not all the way out- it should just drop out when undone enough. If you are wondering what the 'twig perch' is that is screwed to the outside of this cache, it is part of the roots of the old willow tree where this cache was housed. The old tree was dug up so now we keep its memory in spirit at the new location.

After finding the cache you can carry on the path around the corner and see where the cache and tree originally were. This was immediately to the right of the path, where a bench is now situated, opposite what looks like a watering hole on the left (usually not much water there and I've never seen any lions or wilderbeest either!) The route towards R.E.C.L.A.I.M. cache 8 is along this path.

The stump and routes of the old willow tree are currently sat to the left of the path on the slopes of this 'watering hole'.

Bonus Cache Music Question:
This song got to number 6 in the UK for the American band They Might Be Giants in 1989, and is rather strangely a song sung from the perspective of a nightlight which is shaped like a blue canary. If you know the song but never knew this fact then listen to the song again and it takes on a whole new meaning. Below are 3 answers for which you could say that they might be giants, but one of the answers definitely isn't. Which one?

  • Borrowers (G=0)
  • Goliath (G=9)
  • Cyclops (G=4)
  • Bigfoot (G=2)

First To Find honours:
Well, they might be giants in the geocaching world but DrunkNinjaHippo have flown stealthily like a little bird to this nest first.
