Learn about Pillager history through a series of cache placed at significant historical spots in our community. This is stop #13


The Crow Wing River dam was constructed in 1917 under the of Mr. Coswell. It is owned by Minnesota Powers and supplies power to our community and more! Long time resident, Ben Mudgett, was the hydro operator at the Pillager dam for 30+ years and still lives in Pillager. Many other local also worked at the dam. The dam is a gravity dam, of earthen construction, concrete. Its height is 22 feet with a length of 903 feet. Maximum discharge is 20000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 4853 acre feet. Normal storage is 4608 acre feet. It drains an area of 3230 square miles.
