Gold was discovered in the Avoca region in 1853, and within a year, the population had swollen to 14,000.
From the posted co-ordinates, you can see the remains of the workings of the Strip Me Naked alluvial gold mine.
These workings are now listed on the Victorian Heritage Database.
A colourful name indeed - one cannot help but wonder the story behind its naming.
