Geocache Description:

SEMAG events take place in various locations all throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. This event, the 31st edition in the SEMAG event series, will offer a chance to travel to Cuttyhunk Island with your SE Massachusetts geocaching friends!

SEMAG Meet & Greet #31 - Off to Cuttyhunk

Town: The event itself will be in New Bedford. Cuttyhunk Island is part of Gosnold.

Date: September 16th

Event Time: 8 - 8:30 A.M. (the ferry leaves New Bedford at 9:00 and will return at approximately 4:00)

Additional Info: Cuttyhunk Island is located within the elusive town of Gosnold, which is needed for those completing the Massachusetts 351 Challenge. This event will offer an opportunity to cache on Cuttyhunk Island with other cachers from SE Massachusetts.

To access the island, you will need to travel via ferry from New Bedford. A round-trip ferry ticket from New Bedford to Cuttyhunk Island is $45 for adults and $35 for children. There is no charge for children aged 2 and under. The ferry leaves New Bedford at 9:00 and leaves Cuttyhunk at 3:00. More information on tickets and scheduling can be found here. If you park your car at the Cuttyhunk Ferry parking lot, you will need to buy a parking permit as well.

If you have your own means of transportation to the island, you obviously do not need to travel by ferry. Likewise, anyone who wishes to travel to the island on this day is under no obligation to attend the event or travel with any cachers from the area.

Note that the event itself will be held at a small park near the Cuttyhunk Ferry parking lot in New Bedford, and as a result, it is not necessary to pay to travel to Cuttyhunk Island to log an "attended" and get credit for the event. If you are present between 8 and 8:45 at the park, you can log the event. The goal is to meet at the park, sign the event log and plan for the day, then take the 9:00 ferry to the island, returning on the 3:00 ferry from Cuttyhunk. The ferry takes approximately one hour to travel in between New Bedford and the island.

We truly hope you join us for this exciting adventure. The event will be held rain or shine due to tickets being purchased in advance, so dress accordingly in the event of rain!

Come and stay for the whole event or stop by for a few minutes. We hope to see you there!
