Wood Well Nature Reserve near Littleton-on-Severn consists of two meadows owned by Aust Parish Council and managed by South Gloucestershire Council. The meadows are open to the public year round and are indicated by public footpath signs pointing right off the country road between Elberton and Cowhill. A narrow layby offers parking for up to two cars but it's tight. You then have to go through a gate and cross the lower meadow to reach the upper meadow, a walk of around 300 metres from the road. It’s a gentle upward gradient on grass. WARNING: there may be a small herd of cows in the lower meadow, which may inhibit some visitors. As you approach the fence at the top of the upper meadow, you will see a single solid wooden bench which looks back over a stunning array of organic wildflowers in the Spring and Summer months. Beyond this you can see the River Severn and both motorway bridges that link England with Wales. It's a very special viewpoint. The meadow flowers include four species of orchid and around the hedgerow you can find field maple, pedunculate oak, crab apple, hawthorn, dogwood and spindle.
