Geocache Description:

We've been geocaching as a family for a couple of years and we love all the different places we've been able to discover while searching for geocaches. So when we decided to do something special to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, it seemed like a great idea to hide our first geocache in one of our favourite local parks.

This cache is hidden just off one of the trails in Moorecroft Regional Park. No bushwacking required. It is a Canada-themed cache which we started with a number of small tradeables. We'll have to make it a tradition to check in on the cache every Canada Day!

If you've never been to Moorecroft before, be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to explore the park while you are here. There are some great trails along the shoreline with spectacular views of the Strait of Georgia and through 32 hectares of natural forest featuring tree species such as Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Arbutus, Bigleaf Maple, Red Alder and Garry Oak.

The property, formerly known as Camp Moorecroft, was owned by the United Church of Canada until being purchased by the Regional District of Nanaimo in 2011 with assistance from the Nature Trust of BC and the Nanaimo Area Land Trust.

To get there, take Northwest Bay Road (off either Hwy 19 or Hwy 19A) to Stewart Road. Follow Stewart Road to the end. There is good parking available.
