Bentley is a beautiful village set in a rural location in north-east Hampshire, very close to the Surrey border. Rolling farmland surrounds the village, which has all the usual features, such as a very friendly pub, local shop, village pond, Recreation Ground and primary school, which is where Rattypaul teaches, sharing his love of the outdoors, walking, maps and geocaching with his classes.
The A31 passed through the centre of the village until the bypass was opened in 1995. Bentley was the subject of 'The Village', a television series about the life and times of the villagers from 1993 to 2001.
The series of caches includes Bentley Village #2 - Village Pond and Bentley Village #3 - Broadhatch View. The original Bentley Village #1 was renamed Village Hall Series #58/Bentley Memorial Hall and is a multi that starts with a unique display of information. A pleasant walk takes you to the Parish Church of St Mary, Bentley (Church Micro #873...Bentley – St Mary).
Heading towards Bentley Station from the Memorial Hall, the road crosses above the bypass. You are looking for a small camouflaged clip-box containing a logbook in a film pot. There is no pencil/pen, so please bring your own!
This cache could be attempted as a cache and dash as there is a bus stop nearby, but PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO GET TO THE LOCATION BY STOPPING ON THE A31! Leave the bypass and park carefully.
Happy Caching!
