Geocache Description:

Join us at the Old Man of the Mountain Historic Site in Franconia Notch on Sunday, August 20th from 12-1:30 to meet with fellow geocachers, trade trackables, and remember the longtime symbol of the Granite State.

For those who have not been to this site since the collapse, the Old Man of the Mountain Legacy Fund has created an interpretive plaza to help remember the Old Man. The “Steel Profilers", when aligned with the Cannon Cliff above, create what the profile looked like up on the cliff overlooking the Franconia Notch. For those of you who remember seeing the Old Man when you were younger, the view will look very familiar to you. For those of you visiting this site for the first time, hopefully this memorial will help you to understand the importance of "The Great Stone Face" to the people of New Hampshire.

At about 12:30, Dick Hamilton, a member of the Legacy Fund's Board of Directors, will be giving an informational presentation on the history of the Old Man, the efforts to preserve it, and the creation of the memorial plaza.

Note: The location of this event may be moved to a location in the Cannon Mtn Facility depending on weather and the number of will attends, so please log a will attend if you are planning on coming!
