Geocache Description:

The top of the bridge is privately owned so you dont need to go on the top of the bridge to find this cache. It floods quite badly throughout the year, so this cache is not low down or under the arches. Sticking to the western shore, check out the over-hangs and nooks on the south side of the bridge.

Closed in the 1950s. This old railway line was important in WWII. Hidden in the woods 1 mile to the east of the bridge was an enormous ammunition dump that served all of the local RAF bomber stations. Completed in the 19th century this wonderful old stone bridge safely carried trains for many decades to and from Brafferton station. During high summer, when the river is very low, it is still possible to see the wooden piers of the temporary bridge that pre-dated this one.
