Početkom 18. stoljeća Međimursko tlo je često podrhtavalo zbog učestalih potresa. Među lokalnim stanovništvom počinje kružiti legenda da iste prouzročuje golemi jednoglavi zmaj.
BIjaše to velika i snažna zvijer koja bi kad je ogladnjela, izronila bi na površinu zemlje i sa svojim grimizavim jezikom zgrabila što bi dohvatila. Ponekad životinju ali često i čovjeka. Neman je često uništavala žetvu na poljima, stoku i pastire. Nitko nezna kako je nastao zmaj kojega su stanovnici prozvali POZOJ.
Vjerovalo se da će samo jedna osoba uspijeti savladati zvijer. Bit će to na dan pogubljenja Petra Zrinskog i Frana Krste Frankopana i da će to učiniti učenjak, lokalno znan kao grabancijaš iz Čakovca koji ima dvanest školskih godina iza sebe i trinaestu crnu vražju školu. On će imati nadnaravne moći i jedini će biti dorastao toj zvijeri. Prema legendi plemić Matija Čakovečki je bio taj čovjek i godine 1738. na godišnjicu pogiblje hrvatskih velikana svladao je zvijer i meso podijelio sirotinji. Godinama nakon toga tlo se ponovo zatreslo, pa untoč tome legenda o zmaju Pozoju živi i danas.
Postoje čak 4 legende gdje se nalazi. Sve polaze od toga da je rep zmaja ispod starog grada a glava ili je u centru ispod Crkve Sv. Nikole u Čakovcu ili je na jugu grada ispod crkve ili se proteže skroz do naselja Šenkovec i leži ispod crkve Sv. Jelene a neki kaže da je glava ispod crkve SV. Jeronima u na sjeveru u mjesto Štrigova.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the land of Međimurje regularly shook because of frequent earthquakes. Local population began to tell stories about a single headed dragon who is causing the earthquakes. Soon enough, a legend was born. It was a big and strong beast who would, when it was hungry, emerge to te surace and catch whatever it could with it's greedy tongue. Very often that would be an animal, but sometimes even a man or a woman. The beast often destroyed corps on fields, cattle and sheperds. No one knew where did the dragon, called Pozoj by the local population, come from. It was believed that only one person can put an end to this best's life. It will be at the day of Petar Zrinski's and Fran Krsto Frankopan's execution and it will be done by a scholar, localy known as the warlock from Čakovec who has twelve years of school and a thirteenth year of black, devil's school. He will have supernatural powers and he will be the only one who is equal to this beast. According to the legend, lord Matija Čakovečki was that man and in 1738, at the anniversary of Croatia's great men Petar Zrinski's and Fran Krsto Frankopan's death, he conquered the beast and gave its meat to the poor. Years after that the ground shook again so the legend of dragon Pozor still lives. There are even four legends that speak of where it is. They all start with the fact that the dragon's tail is beneath the old town, and that his head is in the center underneath the Church of Saint Nicholas in Čakovec, at the south of the town beneath the church or it stretches all the way to Šenkovec and lies below the Church of Saint Jelena. Some even say that the head is on the north, underneath the Church of Saint Jerome, in the village called Štrigova.
A 18. század elején a Muraközben gyakoriak voltak a földrengések. A helyi lakosság körében az a hiedelem keringett, hogy ezeket egy óriási egyfejű sárkány okozza. Nagy és erős fenevad volt ez, amely ha éhes lett, a felszínre jött és mohón felfalt mindent, amihez csak hozzáfért. Gyakran elpusztította a termést, megölte az állatokat és a pásztorokat. Hogy miként jött létre a POZOJ-nak elnevezett sárkány, senki sem tudja pontosan. Az emberek úgy hitték, hogy a fenevadat csak egyvalaki tudja majd legyőzni. Erre Zrínyi Péter és Frangepán Ferenc Kristóf kivégzésének egyik évfordulóján kerül majd sor, és a sárkány legyőzője a csáktornyai garabonciás diák lesz, aki tizenkét iskolaévet tud maga mögött, a tizenharmadikat pedig fekete mágiát oktató iskolában végezte. Természetfeletti erővel fog rendelkezni és csak ő tudja majd megállítani a bestiát. A legenda szerint a kiválasztott Matija Čakovečki (Csáktornyai Mátyás) volt, aki 1738-ban, a horvát történelem nagyjai halálának évfordulóján legyőzte a sárkányt, a húsát pedig a szegényeknek adta. Évekkel később a föld ismét megremegett, és így Pozoj legendája még ma is él. Arról, hol rejtőzik a sárkány, négy legenda is kering, de mindegyik abból indul ki, hogy a farka a régi vár alatt végződik, s egyesek szerint a feje a város központjában található Szent Miklós-templom alatt vagy a déli részen álló templom alatt van, illetve hogy egészen Šenkovec (Szentilona) településig húzódik és Szent Ilona temploma alatt fekszik. Vannak azonban olyanok is, akik úgy vélik, hogy a feje a Muraköz északi részén fekvő Štrigova (Stridóvár) település Szent Jeromos temploma alatt nyugszik.
Začetkom 18. stoletja Međimursko tlo je pogosto drhtelo zaradi pogostih potresov. Med lokalnimi prebivavci je začela krožiti legenda, da iste te podrhtave prouzroča ogormen enoglavi zmaj. Bila je to velika in močna zver katera bi se ob veliki gladi pojavila na površini zemlje in z svojim požrešnim jezikom pograbila vse pred sabo. Gdaj pa gdaj bi ji pod zob prišla katera žival pogosto pa tudi človek. Zverina bi pogosto uničevala zaseuke na poljima, živino in pastirje. Nihče ne ve od kod se je pojavil zmaj ki so ga prebivalci poimenovali Pozoj. Upali su da bo samo ena oseba uspela obvladati zverinu. Bilo je to na dan ko so pogubljeni Peter Zrinski in Fran Krsto Frankopan, verjeli su da bo to uspelo učenjaku in lokalno znanemo kot GRABANCIJAŠ iz Čakovca ki ima 12 šolskih let za sabo in 13. črno vražjo šolo. On bo imel nadnaravne moči in bu edini dorasel tej zverini. Po legendi plemić Matija Čakovečki je bil človek kateri je leta 1738. na obletnicu smrti hrvaških velikanov obvaldal zver in je meso rezdelil med siromahi. Veliko let po tem se je tlo ponovno zatreslo in kljub vsem legenda o zmaju Pozoju živi že danes. Obstajajo celo 4 legende kje se vse posod nahaja. Vse legende začneju od tega, da je rep pod starim gradom, glava pa se nahaj ali v centru mesta po cerkvijo sv. Nikole ali pa na jugu cerkve. Lahko pa tudi da se nahaja v naselju Šenkovec in leži pod cerkvijo sv.Jelene, a nekateri celo trdijo da je glava pod cerkviju sv.Jeronima na severu mesta Štrigova.
Au début du 18eme siècle le territoire de Medjimurje a été régulièrement secoué par des tremblements de terre. La population locale a commencé à raconter des histoires sur un dragon qui les provoque. C’était une grande bête puissante qui, quand il a faim, émerge à la surface de la terre et saisît tout ce qu’il peut avec sa grande langue comme des animaux, mais parfois aussi des gens. La bête détruit souvent les récoltes dans les champs, le bétail, mais aussi les bergers. Personne ne sait comment la légende du dragon que la population appelait « Pozoj », est né. On pensait qu'une personne seulement était capable de maîtriser la bête. Cela serait le jour de l’exécution de Petar Zrinski et Fran Krsto Frankopan et cela sera fait par un érudit qui vient de Čakovec . Cet érudit aura étudié pendant douze ans et la treizième année sera noire avec l'enseignement du diable. Il aura des pouvoirs surnaturels et il sera le seul à pouvoir égaler cette bête. Selon la légende, le noble Matija Čakovečki était cet homme et il a tué la bête puis a donné sa viande aux pauvres en 1738, à l’anniversaire de mort des nobles croates. Bien des années plus tard, la terre trembla encore une fois. C’est pour cela que la légende du dragon « Pozoj » vit encore./est toujours vivante. Il y a quatre légendes qui spéculent sur où se trouve le dragon. Toutes disent que la queue du dragon est en-dessous de la vielle partie de la ville et que la tête se trouve au centre en-dessous de l’église de Saint Nicolas a Čakovec, ou au sud de la ville, en-dessous de l'église. Les autres légendes disent que le dragon s’étend jusqu’au village Šenkovec et se trouve en-dessous de l’église de Sainte Hélène ou que sa tête se trouve en-dessous de l’église de Saint Jérôme au village Štrigova, au nord.
