Kulin
At 182-metres long and 18 metres high, the Kulin Waterslide is the biggest in regional Western Australia. Many people experience fear at heights – do sweaty palms, trembling and increased heart rate sound familiar? This is the result of adrenaline being released into your bloodstream as your nervous system activates your ‘fight or flight’ response. Scans have shown fear stimuli causes greater blood flow to the amygdala, an almond size mass beneath the temporal lobe in your brain.
Once you’re on the slide physics takes over, with gravity pulling you downwards. The water also acts like a lubricant between you and the slide, reducing friction. You might feel almost weightless… enjoy the ride! If you’re not keen on braving heights in the name of science, there’s plenty more to do at the redeveloped Kulin Aquatic Centre.
This site is part of the Wheatbelt Science Trail and GeoTrail, you can find more information or other sites of interest across the region on the map.
