Geocache Description:

Congratulations to charles@tiff...
...for FTF!!!!

This cache is 3rd in a series of geocaches placed along the historic Brunswick-Altamaha Canal.

This cache is on the banks of the historic Brunswick-Altamaha Canal off a trail, near the canal.

Watch out for alligators, snakes and pretty much anything that can eat you… including ticks. Bug spray is always a plus. The cache is consealed with natural landscaping. Please place it back as you found it. Keep an eye out for muggles.

In the 1800’s the Brunswick-Altamaha Canal was constructed to transport goods from Brunswick's harbor to the Altamaha River to be transported further north. When it was opened in 1854 it was already obsolete because of newly constructed railroads. It closed six years later.

Love Canal is a neighborhood in Niagara Falls, New York. The neighborhood is known as the host of a 16-acre landfill that was ground zero of a massive environmental pollution disaster that affected the health of hundreds of residents. As a result of that disaster, there was the creation of the Superfund Act and Love Canal became the first Superfund Site in the United states. Unfortunately, Brunswick is no stranger to such issues as Glynn County has been home to Superfund sites as well.

Although there is pollution that occurs in the world that is beyond our control, the Love Canal Cache has been placed as reminder of the fragility of the beautiful outdoors where we geocache and that CITO allows us a chance to help protect these areas.
