Geocache Description:

Yo Ho Ho! It's the pirate's life for me!

Easy walk through parkland to treasure.  No need to leave trails, so resist the temptation to plow across the field. Go for a nice walk instead. Two parking options. If you pick the right paths you will be there in 10 minutes or less. Pick the wrong paths and you'll have a nice walk, figure it out, and be there in 15 minutes or less.

This is the fourth cache in a series of caches that highlight this park. They each seem to last a couple years. This one features a pirate ship and lost treasure.

Okay, so you're thinking, what the heck... a pirate ship??  Two unlikely possibilities exist, believe which ever you like....

1.  Many years ago when Lake Leelanau was connected to Lake Michigan, the Dread Pirate Veronica sailed his ship from the Atlantic, into the Great Lakes, into North Lake Leelanau, into South Lake Leelanau, and back in the day Mebert Creek connected this pond to the lake and this is eventually where Captian Veronica got stuck and hid his treasure.  Or....

2.  Many years ago there was a really wacky fantasy-themed golf course named Veronca Valley with all sorts of bizzare features, like a castle with Rapunzel and her golden hair, a 20-foot wooden Indian chief, various bears, and a pirate ship.  Eventually the golf course owner had had his fun, and instead of turning it into a housing development, he gave the land to the county as a park to be preserved for others to enjoy.
